Founded in 1978, Grochmal Eye Center’s philosophy is to provide state-of-the-art and compassionate eye care with a personal touch. With over thirty years experience under the leadership of Dr. Jay C Grochmal, we specialize in LASIK, Cataract surgery, and Glaucoma procedures. No matter your age, we serve patients throughout the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. metro area, from Ellicott City to Annapolis with the latest, safest and most medically advanced eye corrective procedures.
We are a full-service ophthalmic & optical center; every patient’s eye care needs can be treated at our office. Our dedication to eye care extends beyond the Baltimore and Washington D.C metro area. Our mission is to provide compassion and service also to those in need outside of the United States. We are also concerned about and have served patients in developing countries that cannot afford quality eye care. As a result, our doctors have made several trips to Third World countries to provide this much needed service.

About Jay C. Grochmal, MD
Dr. Jay C. Grochmal is an experienced ophthalmologist who can help you significantly improve your eyesight. He has been trained and educated at some of the most respected medical and ophthalmological institutions in the nation, and continues his education by learning new techniques and treatments with the most up-to-date laser and vision care technology. He specializes in improving his patients’ vision with LASIK, Cataract surgery, and Glaucoma procedures.
Dr. Grochmal earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland in 1974, and followed that with a rotating internship at the U.S. Public Health Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland from 1974 to 1975. Dr. Grochmal achieved the rank of Chief Resident at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center’s Department of Ophthalmology, completing his residency in 1978.
That same year, Dr. Grochmal established his private ophthalmology practice, offering comprehensive vision care and treatments that have helped improve the vision of thousands of patients. In recent years, Dr. Grochmal has specialized in the treatment of LASIK eye surgery to treat common conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, and help individuals reduce the need for glasses or contact lenses. In addition he continues to do the safest and most advanced procedures in Cataract surgery, and Glaucoma.
Dr. Jay C. Grochmal is currently on staff with some of the top hospitals in the Baltimore area, including the Greater Baltimore Medical Center and St. Agnes Hospital. He treats patients through the Baltimore – Washington D.C. metro area, from Ellicott City to Annapolis, Maryland.
Dr. Grochmal has also traveled on a number of medical missionary trips to Third World countries for various religious organizations, offering his expertise and skill to those in need across the globe. He has traveled and provided care on the following humanitarian missions:
- Taxilla, Pakistan where he was part of a group who treated literally thousands of people, performing approximately 300 cataract surgeries per day
- Port Maria, Jamaica where Dr. Grochmal performed the first-ever cataract surgery, and established an annual program where ophthalmology residents and faculty from University of Maryland Department of Ophthalmology treat patients and gain experience
- San Salvador, Bahamas where he established a clinic to provide general eye care to patients in need.
- Dr. Grochmal is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology
